Children's eyes are the most affected
Pollen, which is blown from colorless plants by the wind in the spring, causes allergies, seen in about 15 percent of people. Our eyes, one of the organs most in contact with the environment, are among the organs most affected by this situation. Surgeon Dr. Akgün Sayar from Dünyagöz Gaziantep Hospital said: “Allergic conjunctivitis is one of the most common allergic eye diseases. It is a common condition, particularly in children, adolescents and men. Most patients with conjunctivitis also suffer from asthma and other allergic conditions”.
It is very important to take the symptoms seriously and seek treatment
Claiming that the main triggers for allergic conjunctivitis are allergies, infections, and environmental factors, surgeon Dr. Akgün Sayar added: “The most prominent symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis are excessive watering, pain, itching, excessive tingling, and crusting of the eyelashes upon waking up in the morning. Patients with these symptoms should undergo an eye examination to receive the correct treatment. In patients with conjunctivitis that is not treated promptly, eye rubbing can cause corneal deformity, the medical name of which is keratoconus, in the future. For this reason, allergic conjunctivitis should never be ignored. Timely diagnosis and treatment are essential to prevent more serious and far-reaching consequences”.
