Even though color blindness is a hereditary problem, it can be seen in different stories at different times. Did you know that this problem only affects men?
Answering questions about color blindness, surgeon Dr. Burcu Çalık from Dünyagöz Pendik Hospital noted that color blindness is a problem that men are prone to and women are carriers because it develops due to the X gene. Claiming that for color blindness to be seen in girls, the affected male should marry a carrier woman. Surgeon Dr. Burcu Çalık said that although this situation is rare, it can still be seen.
Even though color blindness, which is known as the inability to distinguish between red and green, is a congenital feature, it is difficult to notice because it usually does not present a serious problem in everyday life. Surgeon Dr. Burcu Çalık from Dünyagöz Pendik Hospital argues that it is impossible to spontaneously become aware of color blindness: “Color blind people think that everyone sees colors the same way they do. Naturally, the person himself cannot understand that he is color blind, and for this, he has to pass tests”. Surgeon Dr. Çalık said that the diagnosis of color blindness is carried out using special color booklets: “If a person can read the numbers in these tests, then he can see these colors, and if he cannot read it, then this indicates that he has color blindness”.
Gene X factor in color blindness
Surgeon Dr. Burcu Çalık mentioned that color blindness is a problem that develops due to the X gene: “The X gene factor causes this problem in men. Women are often carriers rather than actively experiencing this problem.” Claiming that color blindness in women is a very rare problem, surgeon Dr. Çalık drew attention to the fact that for girls to have color blindness, a color-blind man must marry a woman who is a carrier of color blindness.
It is possible to see colors with special lenses
Surgeon Dr. Çalık emphasized that color blindness is not a medical condition: “People with color blindness cannot distinguish between green and red tones or, more precisely, some yellow tones. A person sees shades of color, but cannot determine some tones. Claiming that there are special contact lenses for the treatment of color blindness, surgeon Dr. Çalık emphasizes that these lenses are extremely effective in distinguishing colors in everyday life, although not 100 percent.
