Intraocular Lens Treatment

What is intraocular lens treatment?

An Intraocular lens treatment is a method used for the treatment of cataracts and refractive errors in the eye.

This method is applied by placing lenses produced with special technology instead of the natural lens in the eye.

Advantages of intraocular lens treatment

Treatment with intraocular lenses can be used to treat refractive errors such as myopia, hypermetropia, and astigmatism. In the applied method, since the lens in the eye is removed and replaced with a lens with more than one focusing ability, refractive errors can be treated, and if there is a cataract in the eye, cataract treatment can be provided.

How is Intraocular lens treatment performed?

This method applied is called Clear (transparent) lens exchange. Treatment of the intraocular lens is done by making a 3 mm incision and placing the lens inside the eye. The implanted lens returns to its normal shape at body temperature.

Steps for placing a lens in the eye

To use an intraocular lens, the patient must first undergo a comprehensive examination and pass a series of tests. As a result of assessing the structure of the patient's eye, the doctor determines the type of lenses that will be implanted. Since the treatment is also a method of treating cataracts, both the cataract is treated in one session, and with the help of a lens that will be placed in the eye, the problem of far and near vision in suitable candidates is eliminated.

The lenses are available in various diameters. Some of these diameters allow you to see far, and some allow you to see near. Depending on the patient's refractive error, the doctor determines the type of lens.

To whom can Intraocular lens treatment be applied?

Patient selection is very important for this treatment. It should be noted what is more important for the patient: to see at a far or near distance. Another important issue in patient selection is the patient's pupil size. The patient must first get a detailed eye examination. Not every patient's eye is suitable for this type of operation.

Occupation, age, social activity, reading habits, and intellectual level of the patient with a cataract are also important in patient selection. Treatment success is possible with appropriate patient selection, appropriate technique, the experience of the institution where the surgery is performed, the doctor, and of course the right lens.

What should be considered after intraocular lens treatment?

After the operation, vision reaches its normal level within 1-2 days. Antibiotics, cortisone eye drops, and teardrops recommended by your doctor should be used for the recommended period.

The patient is discharged the same after the operation.

Routine check-ups are 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, and 6 months after the operation, but the frequency and duration of checks may vary by the doctor.
